Our advice

Early morning

We especially enjoy diving the Liberty early in the morning, before the busiest part of the day.

Why Dive the USAT Liberty?

The Liberty is much more than a wreck. Its structure has become a habitat for marine life, offering something to discover from the shallow sections down to the deeper parts of the site.

A Wreck Full of Life

The ship is covered in marine growth and surrounded by fish, creating a dive where the wreck itself and the marine life are equally interesting. The stern, open cargo room and exposed structures each offer a different perspective.

Different Routes on the Same Wreck

The Liberty can be explored in different ways depending on experience, depth limits and what you want from the dive. We prefer an early start when possible, before the busiest part of the day.

Macro and Wide-Angle Opportunities

Photographers can alternate between details on the wreck, small marine subjects and larger scenes around the structure. The Liberty is also one of our favourite night dives: around the rear of the wreck, the atmosphere changes completely after dark, and the interaction between the wreck and its nocturnal marine life makes the dive particularly memorable. Groupers and moray eels can sometimes be observed.

The Liberty the Way We Like to Dive It

We prefer to choose the route according to your experience, interests and the conditions of the day rather than following the same circuit every time. When possible, we start early and can plan around the open cargo area, the marine-rich stern or a night dive. Your guide is dedicated to your booking so the pace and profile can be personal to you.

The shore entry is over Tulamben’s characteristic pebble beach. It is manageable for most divers, but it can require extra care for anyone with limited balance or mobility. Our team assists with the equipment and entry where needed.
