Why learn to dive at Nitrox?
Nitrox contains a higher proportion of oxygen and a lower proportion of nitrogen than air. Depending on the dive profile, this may change no-decompression limits. The SSI Enriched Air Nitrox course teaches you to understand its principles, benefits, limits, oxygen exposure, planning, use with a dive computer and responsible use of the mixture.
Less nitrogen in the mixture
A lower nitrogen fraction changes nitrogen exposure and may extend some no-decompression limits depending on the profile. It does not eliminate the risks of diving.
Understanding your new limits
The Nitrox also provides limits related to exposure to oxygen. The training teaches you how to integrate them responsibly without exceeding your certification level.
Use your computer correctly
You learn how the mixture used and your dive computer fit into the planning, without a procedure specific to a particular model.

The knowledge program includes academic sessions 1-3, work with your instructor, and a final exam.

Understand the principles of Nitrox, oxygen exposure, specific mixture limitations, and how it interacts with dive planning.
STEP 2
Working with your instructor
Review the important points with the instructor dedicated to your reservation and get tailored answers to your questions.
STEP 3
Final exam
The final program exam must be validated in accordance with SSI standards.
STEP 4
SSI certification
Once the requirements have been completed and the Open Water Diver or equivalent prerequisite is met, SSI Enriched Air Nitrox certification may be issued.

SSI Enriched Air Nitrox certification teaches you to use Nitrox responsibly within the limits of your diver level and applicable standards.
Your depth limits remain the same
This certification does not authorize you to exceed the depth limits of your diver certification.
No need for a dive to obtain certification
SSI does not require an open-water dive for Enriched Air Nitrox certification. The course still includes direct support from your instructor.
More useful time on certain profiles
The benefit depends on the profile and applicable limits. The Nitrox does not allow you to ignore your computer, your planning or your certification.

The Nitrox program can be integrated into your Open Water course. Academic requirements must be completed and Nitrox certification can only be issued once the applicable SSI requirements have been met.

What is Nitrox?
A breathing mixture with a higher proportion of oxygen and a lower proportion of nitrogen than air.
How old do you have to be?
The minimum age SSI is 10 years old.
Should I already be Open Water Diver?
