Our goal is not simply for you to leave with an Open Water certification card. By the end of the course, we want you to feel genuinely comfortable, independent and confident underwater.

How does your Open Water course work?
A structured progression from theory and confined water through to open-water dives.
Step 1
Theory & SSI E-learning
Approximately half a day
The theory combines SSI E-learning with discussions with your instructor, helping you understand the essential principles before and during the practical training.
A digital exam is completed at the end of the theory section.
Step 2
6 confined-water training sessions in our dive pool
You progressively learn the essential skills during six confined-water sessions in our pool, which was specially designed for dive training. You take the time you need before repeating these skills in the sea.
Step 3
4 open-water dives in Tulamben
Four open-water dives allow you to progressively apply the skills you have learned. The dive sites depend on your progress, training level, age and the conditions on the day.
Step 4
SSI Open Water Diver certification
Once you have completed the required theory, skills and dives, your SSI Open Water Diver certification is included in the offer.
CONFINED WATER TRAINING
A Pool Designed for Dive Training
Your confined-water sessions take place directly at Scuba Tribe Bali in a pool specifically designed for learning and practising scuba diving.
A training area down to 3 metres
The pool includes an area reaching 3 metres in depth. It allows you to progress step by step in suitable conditions before your open-water dives.
Salt-water treatment system
Our pool uses a salt-water treatment system designed to provide a more comfortable environment for the skin and eyes during longer training sessions while maintaining appropriate water disinfection.
Everything is on site
The pool, dive equipment, dive centre, restaurant and accommodation are all in the same place. You spend more time learning and less time travelling.
For a beginner, starting in this calm, controlled environment provides a gradual introduction before the first open-water dives.

Prepare for your Open Water course in Bali
I've never dived before. Can I take the Open Water course?
Yes. No previous certification or diving experience is required. The course begins with theory and pool training before moving to the sea. Medical fitness to dive and sufficient comfort in the water are required according to the applicable standards.
How long does the course take?
The SSI Open Water Diver course takes approximately 2.5 days: around half a day mainly dedicated to theory and two days of practical training. The pace can be adapted when a student needs more time.
How many training sessions and dives will I do?
The course includes six confined-water sessions in our pool and four open-water dives.
Why do you have a pool specifically designed for dive training?
Our pool allows you to train on site in a controlled environment. It includes an area down to 3 metres and uses a salt-water treatment system for greater comfort during longer sessions.
Are equipment and certification included?
Yes. For the SSI offer, equipment, E-learning, instruction, certification, lunches, transport related to the course, charges and taxes are included in the advertised price.
Can we take the course as a couple or family?
Yes. Your booking forms its own private group. Whether you are travelling alone, as a couple, with your family or with friends, your instructor is dedicated to your course and adapts the pace to your progress.
Can my child take the Open Water course?
Yes, from the age of 10 with the Junior Open Water Diver. For children aged 10–11, the maximum training depth is 12 metres. The rules vary according to age, standards and progress.
Can I stay at Scuba Tribe Bali during my course?
Yes. Stay & Learn packages include five nights, the SSI Open Water Diver course, the specified meals and two additional fun dives.
Can I choose PADI or PTRD instead of SSI?
Yes. Prices, certification fees and some conditions differ from the SSI offer and must be confirmed when you enquire.
Can I get photos of my course?
When the organisation allows, photos or videos may be taken during the final dive if an additional guide is available. This possibility is not guaranteed.
